Posted on 11 March 2014

Women's resource centreOn 6 September 2013 the Secretary of State for Justice published further proposals to reform judicial review. These proposals taken with those made in Transforming Legal Aid represent a profound and constitutionally significant attack on the ability of individuals, charities and NGOs to access judicial review. Their effect will be to insulate State executive action (Government, local authorities and public bodies) from judicial scrutiny, weakening the rule of law.

This document gives the background to the consultation (1); the key changes that would impact on constitutional rights and charities' work (2); WRC responses to these (3) plus equality impact considerations (4, 5).
