BAMER outreach project
The PEACe BAMER Outreach Project ended on 31 December 2009.
This successful project was set up in January 2007 and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
However, in spite of the project’s very positive independent evaluation, highlighting considerable outcomes and achievements, LVSC was unsuccessful in securing further funding.
During its three years of operation, the BAMER project has
- provided 37 organisations with intensive consultancy support
- advised 224 groups accessing telephone and face-to-face advice
- trained 145 BAMER organisations on employment law issues
- translated a range of employment law resources into Somali, French, Arabic, Turkish and Polish.

One of the main aims of the project was to encourage small BAMER organisations to access the LVSC’s Personnel, Employment Advice and Conciliation Service – the PEACe generic service. It has been successful in achieving this aim, seeing an increase of 7% in the number of BAMER groups supported by PEACe.
And the PEACe generic service will continue to work with a wide range of front-line and umbrella organisations, providing HR and employment law advice, information resources, training and consultancy support as usual.
The PEACe helpline is available Monday to Thursday on 0203 349 8921 or email.
Meanwhile the skills and expertise of the Outreach Officer, Stefanie Borkum gained in running the BAMER Outreach project have been transferred to a new project, the Target HR Project for groups in central London, set up by Voluntary Action Camden (VAC) for the Central London CVS Network.
The needs of BAMER groups identified by the BAMER Outreach project continue to inform the PEACe advice service.
