Focus on Age Concern London

Age Concern London is the lead partner with Greater London Forum for Older People commissioned by London Councils under service 29 ‘older people 2nd tier policy and voice’.

Age Concern London (ACL) acts as the collective voice of Age Concerns in London by representing all London Age Concern members at regional level. Age Concern London is working to improve the quality of life and enhance the status and influence of older people in London.

Greater London Forum for Older People’s (GLF) major aim is giving older people a voice. This is achieved mainly through the support and development of local borough forums throughout London.

ACL is the lead partner with GLF commissioned by London Councils under service 29 ‘older people 2nd tier policy and voice’.

ACL and GLF will develop and disseminate a series of training tools and resources to empower older people and older people’s organisations to articulate their views at local and regional level to influence service development. The tools will cover three key issues each year identified through consultation with service users. This will be supplemented by a publication identifying emerging issues and policy, workshop[s and access to training and support.

A campaigns alliance of older volunteers will be supported to articulate older people’s views and work directly with older people’s groups. A regular ‘councillors bulletin’ will update all London’s councillors.

The partnership will also deliver workshops for key staff and older people in older people’s organisations and will support the engagement of older people in local forums.

There will be two focus groups/workshops for LGBT and BAME older people to stimulate improvement in engagement.

ACL has also been commissioned under service 73 – to enable people aged 50 and above and carers to access good quality care through direct payments, individual budgets, advocacy and discretionary care services.
