Service 6
2 shows entitled Ma Kelly's Doorstep and Ma Kelly Plays It Safe.
ATTIC have created two community shows aimed at the elderly and vulnerable that highlight the issues of Distraction Burglary and Home Safety; These entertaining shows tour lunch clubs, day centres and sheltered housing throughout London and have been incorporated into many community safety events.
Since the first tour in 2002 ATTIC have performed the shows over 130 times, reaching 7000 people in over 2/3 of all London Boroughs.
ATTIC will be devising a new Ma Kelly Play in 2009 that focuses’ on healthy independent living.
Drama workshops for older people helping to stimulate the imagination and touch base with the best in drama, comedy and poetry - and most of all have fun.
We create plays from stories invented by the participants through improvisation that are eventually written down by a playwright and given a dramatic structure. The dramatic/humorous piece is ultimately performed as a rehearsed reading. We are currently working with Merton and Morden Guild in Merton.
The RITZ! shows – intergenerational community shows enabling older people from diverse ethnic communities to come together to present an entertainment in the theatre.
New Vintage Writing - ATTIC are developing and commissioning new plays written by and for older people. They will be toured to professional theatre venues and marketed to all people, including BME groups. We are developing a new play entitled 1936 written by Tom McNab. This will be touring in spring and autumn of 2009.The shows looks at the events prior to the Berlin Olympics through the eyes of William Shirer, the famous American journalist.
Service 7
The Many Voices programme offers a variety of drama and music workshops and performances for young refugees, asylum seekers and unaccompanied minors aged 9-18. By giving space for self-expression through improvisation, movement and devising we hope to increase self-confidence, reduce isolation and engender a sense of belonging and having fun.
We are currently working with Asylum Welcome (Merton), the Afghan Association Paiwand (Brent) and the Refugee Council in Brixton.
The LB Lambeth workshops take place during the school holidays and provide an activity for those with spare time. We deliver 2-hour weekly workshops on a term basis to LB Brent and LB Merton, which, where appropriate, culminate in a performance/presentation of the work.
The workshops assist the young people in gaining communication skills, gaining a greater understanding of their new environment and culture and are a useful tool to boosting self-confidence and self esteem. The sessions can contribute greatly to the participants’ sense of belonging and community cohesion.
Alongside devising their own work. The participants are introduced to specialist artistes and different theatre genres and disciplines, which stimulate their imagination and inspire them. The skills they learn also open up educational opportunities and help give the young people a sense of direction.
